Christmas is the most important traditional festival in
Poland
, so of course it was celebratedin the framework of the course of Polish language at
Zhaoqing
University
. Christmas Day is 25th of December, however in the Polish culture the most important is the Christmas Supper with the family members on the Christmas Eve, December 24th (This day is called “Wigilia” in Polish). However, there is also a tradition that a few days before Christmas friends, coworkers, students meet to celebrate Christmas with colleagues, before they go home to celebrate it with family. prepared a special Christmas Class for students of Polish language.
Students not only learned about Polish traditions and some new vocabulary, but they were also preparing Christmas decorations and decorate a Christmas tree, listen to Polish Christmas Carrols and take part in a very Polish custom of sharing “opłatek” (special Christmas bread). The special guest was ŚwiętyMikołaj (Santa Claus), who appeared at the end of the class and gave a small gift to every student.
